Your skin care routine is the basis for your face, it makes or breaks it. The traditional products and steps include:
Cleanser- removes debris, oil, and makeup. (ex. Neutrogena® Ultra Gentle Cleanser, Clean & Clear® Morning Burst Cleanser)
Toner- helps reduce redness and dry patches while hydrating and replenishing the skin's surface (ex. Sea Breeze®)
Exfoliant- remove built-up dead skin cells, revealing new skin (ex. St. Ives® Apricot Scrub)
Acne Treatment/Wrinkle Cream/Target Treatment- if necessary (ex. Clearasil® Acne Treatment Cream)
Moisturizer- Used daily, moisturizers improve skin's healthy functioning and keep it feeling smooth and soft ex. (Ambi® Facial Moisturizer, CeraVe)
It's always best to do what works best for your own skin. And this routine wasn't necessarily working for my combination/oily skin. Toner would dry me out more than providing any benefits, but this also may be due to the type of toner I purchased. I have also acquired dark spots below my cheekbone area, that I am determined to get rid of. I have come up with a new routine that has done wonders and performed a miracle for my skin. I have seen a huge improvement in the fading of my dark spots as well as the overall smoothness of my skin. The only con is that when I choose not to wear makeup (few and far between now that my dark spots have improved) I have an oily T-Zone, which is persuading me to purchase theNeutrogena® Oil-Free Moisturizer for Combination Skin. I look forward to trying the next big thing in skin care, Micellar Water, which was recommended to me by my line sister and is ofered by multiple companies now. I will update my routine for the Spring/Summer but my current skin care routine is below.
For simplicity purposes, I perform the same routine morning and night:
Cleanse my face with Neutrogena® Fresh Foaming Cleanser
Pat dry with a clean towel (I also recommend using a different washcloth for your face and your body)
Moisturize with Neutrogena® Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
Exfoliate once a week with African Black Soap
